It is a very rare event to find small pockets of Azurite and Malachite together as cuttable material. it mostly consists of thin layers surrounded by a brown rock matrix.

Cutting Quality
Challenges:
It is an extremely brittle material with a high rate of loss by breakage.
Premium-cutting-quality is characterized by:
- a polished backside
- a sharp unchipped edge between the backside and the bezel
- a very straight and even highly polished bezel
- a sharp unchipped edge between the bezel and the dome
- a well-shaped dome, not showing any deformation
- Top-quality polish
Pricing
Adequate pricing must take into account the cost factors to obtain top-quality cabochons:
- Nearly impossible acquisition of the material.
- Very high rate of loss due to breakage of brittle material.
- A usual material loss of approximately 90 % of the selected material during the cutting and shaping process.
- The level of experience required by a cutter to produce a flawlessly shaped and highly polished cabochon from such a soft material.

We are not producing anything less than premium jewelry-grade cabochons from this material. However, as this is a very difficult material to cut, there are always some cabochons with minor flaws that disqualify for our Premium quality. We are going to offer those at reduced prices in special offers:
Cutting Quality:
- Straight bezel, 3 mm high
- Flat and perfect dome (1-3 mm high)
- The edges between the bezel and dome, as well as the bezel and backside, are sharp and crispy, with nearly no chips on the lower edge.
Additional quality (AAA+): Backside polished to 3000 grit

We are not producing (A) jewelry-grade intentionally from this rare material. However, as it is a very complicated material to cut there are always some cabs coming out that do not fit our quality standards. Those cabochons will be sold by just at lower prices in special offers.
