Serpentinite
About Serpentinite
Serpentinite is a metamorphic rock composed of a group of minerals, which is characterized by its coloration in different shades of green. The name originates from the similarity of the texture of the rock with the skin of a snake.
In Peru there is not only normal serpentinite, but there is also a variaty mixed with pyrite that adds the qualities of this stone.
Serpentinite has a significant amount of bound water, hence it contains abundant hydrogen atoms able to slow down neutrons by elastic collision (neutron thermalization process). Because of this serpentinite can be used to protect from radiation. Serpentinite has been used as as dry filler inside steel jackets in some designs of nuclear reactors.
The ancient ethnic people used this stone as a substitute for jade for making earrings and necklaces. The serpentine stone was believed to have the ability to ward off evil spirits and protect from bad energies and the evil eye. Today the serpentine stone is said to be able to regulate mood swings, calm stress, decrease anxiety and even protect against negative influences that could cause depression or heaviness. It helps to achieve the peace of mind necessary to solve problems correctly, achieve deeper spiritual exploration and meditation, and cleanse the chakras.
